Often in large spaces with high ceilings and hard surfaces, such as school halls, restaurants, meeting rooms, atria and even eco-homes, reverberation (echo) can make the noise build-up or lack of speech intelligibility intolerable. Acoustics in schools is addressed in the Building Regulations in a section referred to as Building Bulletin 93 (BB93). This document sets out strict requirements for the acoustics and noise control in, not only learning spaces, but music rooms, sports halls, dining rooms and therapy rooms.
